Home energy efficient: CNR project

The excellence of research and of Italian craftsmanship together to design sustainable buildings of the future. The National Research Council CNR-Ivalsa, the European Centre for Enterprise and Innovation Trentino (Ceii), Habitech-dttn (Trentino Technology District for Energy and the Environment) and a consortium of 13 companies have joined the craft Trentino forces to carry out the project Mai, the "Living module Ivalsa."

The MAI is a building built entirely of wood, it is a house of 33 square meters (two bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen, a living room and two terraces of 16 square meters) with high energy efficiency. The house consists of 5 modules prefabricated and transportable that are joined to form a single building as stated Ceccotti Ario, director of the National Research Council and project leader who adds: "One of the absolutely innovative characteristics, compared to the traditional wooden prefabrication , is that once you arrive on site must not do is tighten the bolts. With this system, it is also possible to construct buildings of any size and architectural form. "

Each module consists of everything you need to build the house: from the floor to plant the interior decor. All casings are designed as in the passive houses to have a high transmittance value while inside there is a coating which provides protection against fire: the structure is protected by a ventilated façade of wooden planks and a sheath breathable waterproof that allow layers of wood to protect from rain and sun radiaction.

The cover of Mai includes an integrated solar thermal and two of these modules are covered by a green roof that allows you to manage the offloading to shore of rainwater. The wood that was used in the building for the most part comes from certified forests of conifers and Trentino while the supporting structure, which is the foundation, the panels are made with X-Lam seismic result of the experience of the project Sofie.

The design is optimized in space, are made of solid wood in natural or plated with composite materials made from fibers derived from recycled paper 100% free of resins derived from petroleum. NEVER will soon receive LEED certification but has already exceeded the bloower door test, an experimental tool of Regulation Wooden Houses Trentino to discover the air leakage of a structure.

The MAI has already been exposed to the public during the month of September but will provide new milestones towards building sustainable tour. Projects of this kind belong to excellence and to the future of green building but they are part of many initiatives for research and experimentation in design. Daihai Fei, designers and Chinese student of 24 years, he built a house egg-shaped and made from fully sustainable bamboo, sawdust, grass seeds that are watered every day and a solar panel. The house is equipped with wheels and only cost $ 960.
